Target Information
Thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) is a carboxypeptidase that cleaves C-terminal lysine residues from fibrin, which serve as binding sites for tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen. This action reduces fibrin's capacity to promote fibrinolysis. In horses, TAFI is encoded by the CPB2 gene. The function of TAFI in horses is mainly reflected in its regulatory effect on the fibrinolytic system, especially in diseases such as chronic glomerulonephritis. By inhibiting the production and activity of plasminogen, it reduces tissue damage and fibrosis, thereby exerting a protective effect.
