Glutathione (GSH) is a powerful antioxidant which is involved in the detoxification of both xenobiotic and endogenous compounds. Glutathione is a tripeptide, consisting of three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It plays a crucial role in preventing damage to essential cellular components caused by various sources, including reactive oxygen species, free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals. Cats may have higher risk than dogs for low liver GSH concentrations.
