Target Information
Corticosterone, also referred to as 17-deoxycortisol and 11β,21-dihydroxyprogesterone, is a 21-carbon steroid hormone produced in the adrenal gland cortex. While it serves as a mineralocorticoid and a glucocorticoid, its primary role is as an intermediate in the steroidogenic pathway from pregnenolone to aldosterone. In humans, cortisol remains the primary glucocorticoid produced in the adrenal cortex. Notably, corticosterone acts as a biomarker for stress levels and has been studied extensively in channel catfish.
