Target Information
Fatty acids in fish originate from two primary sources. Firstly, they are synthesized de novo within the animal from non-lipid carbon sources. Secondly, they can be obtained directly from dietary lipids. The conversion process involves acetyl-CoA, primarily derived from protein, which can be transformed into saturated fatty acids through the collaborative action of acetyl-CoA carboxylase and fatty acid synthetase. Thus, fish accumulate fatty acids either through endogenous synthesis or by directly incorporating them from their diet.
