Target Information
The C-terminal telopeptide (CTX), also referred to as carboxy-terminal collagen crosslinks, is a part of fibrillar collagens like collagen type I and type II. It serves as a biomarker in the serum for assessing the rate of bone turnover. CTXIII is one variant within the C-terminal telopeptide group. It's used to assess the progression of fibrotic diseases. Collagen type III plays a role in early wound healing, so CTX-III can reflect changes in ECM remodeling during this process. Cardiac fibrosis is an important component of many cardiovascular diseases, therefore, CTX-III levels are relevant in those studies that utilize guinea pigs.
