Target Information

IL-1 beta is produced and released by various types of immune and non-immune cells in rapid response to inflammatory signals. It is expressed in activated monocytes/macrophages and plays a crucial role in cell defense and tissue repair across nearly all tissues. In hamsters, Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) functions as a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine, initially identified as a major endogenous pyrogen. It induces prostaglandin synthesis, neutrophil influx, and activation, playing a crucial role in immune responses and inflammation. IL-1β potentiates bradykinin-induced macromolecular efflux in the hamster oral mucosa, highlighting its role in tissue permeability and inflammation.
