Target Information
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), also referred to as matrix metallopeptidases or matrixins, are a type of metalloproteinase that functions as calcium-dependent, zinc-containing endopeptidases. An enzyme in this family, matrix metalloproteinase-19 (MMP-19), is also known as matrix metalloproteinase RASI. MMP19-deficient mice exhibit an attenuated cutaneous inflammatory response, reduced T-cell numbers, and decreased secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. MMP19 has been found to have tumor suppressor effects in certain tumors. For example, in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), MMP19 expression is associated with tumor suppression and anti-angiogenesis.
