Target Information

Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-Β Ligand (also known as RANKL), a type II membrane protein, belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is recognized for its role in influencing the immune system and regulating bone regeneration and remodeling. SARS-CoV-2 infection in golden Syrian hamsters significantly increases RANKL expression, leading to increased osteoclastogenesis and bone loss. RANKL's interaction with its receptor RANK promotes osteoclast formation, while osteoprotegerin (OPG) acts as a decoy receptor to inhibit this process, maintaining bone homeostasis.

Target/Biomarker Hamster RANKL
Target Synonym Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-Β Ligand; RANKL; tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 11; TNFSF11; TNF-related activation-induced cytokine; TRANCE; osteoprotegerin ligand; OPGL; osteoclast differentiation factor; ODF
