Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipocytes whose primary role is to regulate appetite and energy metabolism. Studies have shown that Leptin suppresses appetite and reduces feed intake by acting on receptors in the hypothalamus. In pigs, the level of Leptin is closely related to body fat content and energy status. When body fat increases, the level of Leptin rises, thus suppressing feeding and increasing energy expenditure.
