Target Information
Kynurenic Acid (KYNA or KYN) is a product of the normal metabolism of amino acid L-tryptophan. This neuroactive compound has several intriguing properties. It acts as an antiexcitotoxic and anticonvulsant, most likely through acting as an antagonist at excitatory amino acid receptors. Its neurophysiological and neuropathological effects make it relevant for potential use in certain neurobiological disorders. Increased KYNA levels are associated with conditions such as tick-borne encephalitis, schizophrenia, and HIV-related illnesses.
