Target Information
Hydroxyacyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase (HDAC8) is encoded by the HADH gene in pigs. It is an enzyme that functions in the mitochondrial matrix. This mitochondrial enzyme participates in the β-oxidation of fatty acids. HDAC8 catalyzes the oxidation of straight-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoAs as part of the beta-oxidation pathway. Its enzymatic activity is highest with medium-chain-length fatty acids. Mutations in the HDAC8 gene cause one form of familial hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia.
