Target Information

Chicken histone H3 (cH3) is a variant of the histone protein H3 found in chickens, which plays a central role in the packaging and organization of DNA within the nucleus of cells. Histones are highly conserved proteins that, together with DNA, form the nucleosome, the basic unit of chromatin structure. cH3, like its mammalian counterparts, is involved in the regulation of gene expression, DNA replication, and DNA repair. It contains a positively charged amino-terminal tail that interacts with the negatively charged DNA, facilitating the wrapping of DNA around the histone octamer. This interaction is essential for the compaction of DNA within the cell nucleus and for the regulation of gene activity.
