Target Information

Porcine amyloid precursor protein (pAPP) is a transmembrane protein found in pigs that is implicated in the regulation of various cellular processes, including cell adhesion, migration, and synaptic function. It is a key molecule in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease, due to its role in the production of amyloid-beta peptides, which can aggregate to form amyloid plaques in the brain. pAPP undergoes proteolytic cleavage by enzymes known as secretases, leading to the generation of different fragments. The amyloidogenic pathway results in the formation of amyloid-beta peptides, while the non-amyloidogenic pathway produces soluble APP fragments that may have neuroprotective functions.
