Target Information

Porcine myocilin (pMYOC) is a protein that is part of the small heat shock superfamily and is specifically expressed in the ocular tissues of pigs. It is found in the aqueous humor of the eye and is associated with the inner wall of the eye, particularly the trabecular meshwork. pMYOC plays a role in the maintenance of the structural integrity of the eye and is implicated in the regulation of intraocular pressure. This protein is of particular interest due to its homology with human myocilin, a gene mutation of which is linked to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Studying pMYOC can provide insights into the mechanisms of glaucoma development and progression, as well as the response to increased intraocular pressure.
