Target Information
4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), also known as 4-hydroxy-2E-nonenal, is an α,β-unsaturated hydroxyalkenal produced by lipid peroxidation in cells. 4-HNE is the major α,β-unsaturated hydroxyalkenal formed during lipid peroxidation. It is generated during the oxidation of lipids containing polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acids, such as arachidonic and linoleic acids. 4-HNE is hypothesized to play a key role in cell signal transduction across various pathways, from cell cycle events to cellular adhesion. Research has shown that CLN (colostrinin, a complex of proline-rich polypeptides derived from ovine colostrum) appears to down-regulate 4HNE-mediated lipid peroxidation.
