The Dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor 1 is encoded by the DKK1 gene in sheep. Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) acts as an inhibitor of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway and is involved in regulating hair follicle formation and cycling. Prior research has indicated that DKK1 could be a key gene influencing wool production and quality traits. Furthermore, specific SNPs (SNPs5, 8, 9, and 10) have been identified as potential molecular markers for enhancing wool production and quality in sheep breeding.
