Target Information

Heparin is an anticoagulant used to prevent the formation of blood clots during and after surgery and to treat various heart, lung, and circulatory disorders in which there is an increased risk of blood clot formation. After heparin boluses of 200 units/kg, sheep and goats reached mean peak activated clotting times over 400 seconds. It is an essential medication for preventing and treating blood clots, but it requires careful monitoring.
