Target Information
Preprorelaxin is the precursor form of the hormone relaxin. Prorelaxin is encoded by the RLN gene in horses. Within the horse's body, the placenta serves as the primary source of relaxin, a 6 kDa polypeptide hormone consisting of two peptide chains connected by two interchain disulfide bonds. Relaxin works in conjunction with other reproductive hormones (such as estrogen) to regulate physiological changes during pregnancy. Research indicates that an immunologically and biologically active equine prorelaxin can be synthesized in an immortalized bovine mammary epithelial cell line.
