Target Information

Desmoglein-1 is encoded by the DSG1 gene in pigs. It is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein found in desmosomes. Desmosomes are specialized cell-cell junctions that provide strong adhesion between adjacent epithelial cells. It is expressed everywhere in the skin epidermis, but it is particularly abundant in the superficial upper layers. DSG1 is the target protein in the porcine skin disease exudative epidermitis caused by virulent strains of Staphylococcus hyicus.

Target/Biomarker Porcine DSG1
Target Synonym Desmoglein-1; Desmosomal glycoprotein 1; DG1; DGI; DSG1
