Target Information
Neurofilaments are type IV intermediate filament heteropolymers composed of light, medium and heavy chains. Neurofilaments form the axoskeleton and functionally maintain neuronal calibre. They may also play a role in intracellular transport to axons and dendrites. Neurofilament Medium Polypeptide is encoded by the NEFM gene in pigs. It is a protein that belongs to the neurofilament family of proteins, which are intermediate filaments involved in maintaining neuronal caliber.
