Target Information

Adiponectin is a hormone released by adipose (fat) tissue that enhances insulin sensitivity and modulates inflammation. Adiponectin enhances insulin sensitivity, improving glucose metabolism. It has anti-inflammatory properties, suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Adiponectin protects against atherosclerosis by inhibiting vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and reducing oxidative stress. It is secreted into the bloodstream and is highly abundant in plasma compared to many other hormones. In rabbit blastocysts, adiponectin stimulates lipid metabolism through AMPK.
