Target Information

Bovine galectin 1 is a member of the galectin family, a group of β-galactoside-binding lectins with diverse biological functions. It is a 14.5 kDa protein encoded by the LGALS1 gene and functions as a homodimer. Galectin 1 is expressed both intracellularly and extracellularly, playing roles in cell proliferation, immune modulation, and cell-cell interactions. In bovine systems, Galectin 1 is found in various tissues, including the corpus luteum, where it promotes cell viability through interactions with glycoproteins such as VEGFR-2. It is also present in the adrenal gland, particularly in smooth muscle cells and migrating glial cells.
