Target Information
Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 is a growth factor within the TGF-beta superfamily that is vital for numerous developmental processes, including neurogenesis, vascular development, angiogenesis, and osteogenesis. It collaborates with PTHLH/PTHRP to promote ductal outgrowth during embryonic mammary development and to inhibit hair follicle induction. In rabbits, this protein is encoded by the BMP4 gene. In studies in rabbits, BMP4 has been used to promote bone regeneration. For example, by prefabricating vascularized bone flaps in the forelimbs of juvenile rabbits, BMP4 can be used to promote hydroxyapatite formation and enhance bone regeneration.
