Target Information
Fatty acid synthase is responsible for catalyzing the formation of long-chain fatty acids from acetyl-CoA, malonyl-CoA, and NADPH. This multifunctional protein possesses seven catalytic activities as an acyl carrier protein. In rabbits, it is encoded by the FASN gene. Although the available data do not directly refer to the function of fatty acid synthase in rabbits, it can be hypothesized that it may play an important role in the regulation of fatty acid synthesis, transport and metabolism. These functions are consistent with similar mechanisms in other mammals.
