Target Information
Immunoglobulin A (IgA), also known as sIgA in its secretory form, is an antibody integral to the immune function of mucous membranes. The quantity of IgA produced in conjunction with mucosal membranes surpasses that of all other antibody types combined. The European rabbit possesses 15 IgA subclasses, each characterized by unique hinge region motifs and differing lengths. The unique IgA system in rabbits makes them valuable models for studying mucosal immunity. Studies on the differing hinge regions of the rabbit IgA subclasses, are being done to see if those regions can be used to improve human IgA based therapeutic agents.
