Target Information
SERPINA12, also known as Vaspin, is a glycoprotein categorized as a class A member of the serine protease inhibitor (serpin) family. Serpin A12 functions as a protease inhibitor with an approximate molecular weight of 47 kDa and belongs to the adipokine family of cytokines secreted by adipose tissue. Vaspin protects vascular endothelial cells from free fatty acid-induced apoptosis via the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt pathway. This suggests that Vaspin may have potential functions in anti-inflammatory and cellular protection. Although there is no direct evidence for a specific function of Vaspin in rabbits, it can be hypothesized that it may be associated with body weight regulation, energy metabolism, and anti-inflammatory protective effects.
