Target Information

The CLDN18 gene encodes a protein known as Claudin-18 (CLDN18) in dogs. It belongs to the claudin group of proteins, which form tight junction strands in epithelial cells. CLDN18 plays a major role in the tight junction-specific obliteration of the intercellular space through calcium-independent cell-adhesion activity. CLDN18 has two isoforms, A1 and A2. Research has shown that the CLDN18.2 protein sequence is highly conserved, in particular with regard to functionally relevant domains in mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, monkey and human and also in lizards.
