Target Information
Nerve growth factor (NGF), also known as beta-nerve growth factor, is encoded by the NGF gene. It is a nerve cell growth regulator with dual biological functions of neuronal nutrition and neurite growth promotion. It plays an important role in regulating the development, differentiation, growth, regeneration and expression of functional characteristics of central and peripheral neurons. In chickens, NGF may play a role in the development of spinal cords.
