Target Information
Feline Coronavirus Non-Structural Protein 7b (NSP7b) is an accessory protein encoded by the FCoV genome. Although its exact function is not fully understood, it is believed to play a role in viral virulence and pathogenesis. NSP7b is dispensable for viral replication in vitro but may contribute to the severity of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) in vivo. In veterinary medicine, NSP7b is used as a target for developing diagnostic tools, such as monoclonal antibodies, to detect FCoV infections. It is also studied to understand the genetic diversity and evolution of FCoV strains, which is crucial for controlling FIP in cats.
