Target Information

H7 viruses have the potential to infect mammals beyond humans. For instance, in the United States, H7N7 influenza viruses were isolated from a seal in 1980, and H7N2 viruses were identified in cats in 2016. In South Korea, H7N2 viruses were detected in pigs in 2001. The hemagglutinin (HA) protein, a homotrimeric glycoprotein on the surface of influenza viruses, is vital for the virus's ability to infect host organisms.
