Target Information

Mouse Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 6, or FAS, is a tumor necrosis factor receptor involved in apoptosis regulation. In mouse models, FAS is used to study the relationship between apoptosis and immune responses. FAS, also known as CD95, is a death receptor that, upon binding to its ligand FASL, triggers the extrinsic pathway of apoptosis. This process is essential for the elimination of damaged or infected cells and the maintenance of immune homeostasis. In the immune system, FAS-mediated apoptosis plays a role in the deletion of autoreactive lymphocytes, preventing the development of autoimmune diseases. However, defective FAS signaling can lead to lymphoproliferative disorders and increased susceptibility to infections. Research on FAS also extends to cancer biology, where some tumor cells exploit FAS signaling to induce apoptosis of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, thereby evading immune surveillance. Understanding the complex interplay between FAS-mediated apoptosis and immune responses has implications for developing therapies that can modulate cell death pathways to treat various diseases, including cancer and autoimmune conditions.
