Target Information
Swine galectin 12 (LGALS12) is a protein specifically expressed in adipose tissue, primarily regulating adipocyte differentiation and lipogenesis. Studies have shown that LGALS12 plays a significant role in fat deposition in pigs, acting as an important regulator of adipogenesis . CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout of the LGALS12 gene in pigs has demonstrated that the absence of LGALS12 leads to increased lipolysis, enhanced adipocyte mitochondrial respiration, and reduced whole-body lipid content . Additionally, LGALS12 is involved in cell cycle regulation, with its expression upregulated during the G1 or G1/S phase, potentially affecting cell proliferation and differentiation .
