Target Information
Vibrio cholerae is a species of Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, comma-shaped bacteria. Two serogroups, O1 and O139, are responsible for cholera outbreaks. This zoonotic bacterium is commonly found in various bodies of water and has also been reported to infect aquatic animals. The enzyme 5'-methylthioadenosine/S-adenosylhomocysteine nucleosidase catalyzes the irreversible cleavage of the glycosidic bond in both 5'-methylthioadenosine (MTA) and S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH/AdoHcy), resulting in adenine and the corresponding thioribose, which are 5'-methylthioribose and S-ribosylhomocysteine, respectively.
