Target Information
Pregnancy-associated glycoprotein 3 is encoded by the PPAG3 gene in pigs. It is a protein produced specifically in the invasive binucleate cells of the placenta. It becomes detectable in maternal serum soon after implantation. PAGs belong to the family of inactive aspartic proteinases and were initially known by various names such as PSB-60, Sheep Biology Unit-3 antigen (SBU), and others. Research has shown that porcine PAG proteins may be luteoprotective chorionic signals during implantation and placentation.
