Target Information
Thimet Oligopeptidase 1 (THOP1) is a metalloendopeptidase found in the brains of Alzheimer patients. It can cleave a synthetic peptide encompassing the amino-terminus of amyloid β-peptide and generate amyloidogenic fragments from recombinant human amyloid precursor protein (APP). THOP1 is involved in the metabolism of neuropeptides under 20 amino acids long. Bovine Thimet Oligopeptidase is encoded by the THOP1 gene in cattle. It is a metallopeptidase ubiquitously distributed in mammalian tissues.
