Target Information
Somatostatin is encoded by the porcine SST gene. It is a tetradecapeptide with a molecular weight of 1600. Research has suggested a dual origin of somatostatin in the porcine pineal gland and the possibility of its role as a neurotransmitter and a paracrine agent. Excessive or low levels of somatostatin can cause health issues, such as tumors, diabetes, and diarrhea.
