Target Information

Visfatin is encoded by the VF gene in pigs. It is a multifunctional protein that can control energy homeostasis, also may be involved in the regulation of female fertility through the influence on the endocrine hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, including the pituitary. It has been reported that visfatin is produced locally in the porcine pituitary gland in a manner dependent on the hormonal milieu typical of the reproductive status of pigs.
