2-Oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex is essential for energy production, metabolic balance, and maintaining cellular health within the mitochondria. It plays a crucial role in the citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle), which is essential for energy production and metabolism. Bovine 2-Oxoglutarate Dehydrogenase, Mitochondrial is encoded by the OGDH gene in cattle. It is a subunit that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of alpha-ketoglutarate to succinyl-CoA. It was found to be up-regulated in heifers.
