Target Information
Bovine Rhodopsin, also known as visual purple, is encoded by the RHO gene in cattle. It serves as a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and plays a central role in vision. Rhodopsin is primarily found in the rod cells of the retina. It is the visual pigment that mediates dim-light vision in vertebrates and is used as model system for the study of retinal disease. When rhodopsin is exposed to light, it immediately photobleaches.
