Target Information

Relaxin is a hormone produced by the ovary and the placenta with important effects in the female reproductive system and during pregnancy. The biology of relaxin differs in many ways between ruminants and non-ruminants. The immunoreactive blood concentration of circulating relaxin is much lower in ruminants (cattle and sheep) than in non-ruminants (pigs). It facilitates parturition by dilating the cervix and widening the pelvic canal in several mammalian species.
