Neurofilament H (NF-H), also known as the 200 kDa neurofilament heavy chain, is another crucial component of the cytoskeleton within neurons. It plays a significant role alongside other neurofilament proteins in maintaining neuronal structure and function. Neurofilaments (NFs) are unique among the tissue-specific classes of intermediate filaments in that they are heteropolymers composed of four subunits (NF-L; NF-M; NF-H; and α-internexin or peripherin), each with different domain structures and functions.
