Chicken netrin-1 (NTN1) plays a crucial role in the development of the vestibular system in chickens by regulating apoptosis, which is essential for the fusion of semicircular canals in the inner ear. Overexpression of NTN1 in the chick otic vesicle prevents canal fusion by inhibiting apoptosis.
