Target Information
The enzyme cytochrome c oxidase, or complex IV, is a large transmembrane protein complex found in bacteria, archaea and eukaryotic mitochondria. The electron density distribution of oxidised bovine cytochrome c oxidase at 2.8 A resolution reveals a dinuclear copper centre with an unexpected structure similar to a [2Fe-2S] type iron-sulphur centre. Cytochrome c oxidase accepts electrons from cytochrome c, the final electron carrier in the electron transport chain.
