Target Information

Uroplakin-1a is encoded by the UPK1A gene in bovine. It belongs to a family of proteins called tetraspanins, characterized by four transmembrane domains that anchor the protein within the cell membrane. Uroplakin-1a forms multi-layered plaques together with other uroplakin proteins (Uroplakin-1b, 2, and 3) to create a strong, impermeable barrier. Gene for uroplakin 1A was mapped to bovine Chromosome 18.
