Apolipoprotein AI (ApoA-I) is the major protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as "good cholesterol," in the blood. It plays a crucial role in reverse cholesterol transport, which helps to remove excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues and transport it back to the liver for excretion. Apolipoprotein A1 is encoded by the APOA1 gene in dogs. It might support a diagnosis of canine septic peritonitis with a potential prognostic significance.
