Target Information

Fibroblast Growth Factor 5 is encoded by the FGF5 gene in dogs. It belongs to the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members exhibit broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGF proteins interact with a family of specific tyrosine kinase receptors. This interaction is often regulated by proteoglycans or extracellular binding protein cofactors. In dogs, allelic heterogeneity of FGF5 mutations causes the long-hair phenotype.
