Target Information
Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), which is also known as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide, is an inhibitory hormone within the secretin hormone family. GIP, along with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), is part of a group of molecules called incretins, which promote insulin release following oral food intake. In dog studies, GIP was shown to enhance the insulin response to oral glucose and its release was strongly correlated with fat intake. These studies further support the importance of GIP in the regulation of energy metabolism.
