Target Information

Ceruloplasmin is encoded by the chicken CP gene. It is the only animal blue copper oxidase found in the alpha 2-globulin fraction of vertebrate plasma. Ceruloplasmin is the major copper-carrying protein in the blood. It plays a role in iron metabolism. It exhibits a copper-dependent oxidase activity. It assists in the transport of iron in the plasma in association with transferrin, which can carry iron only in the ferric state. Chicken ceruloplasmin is capable of complete reoxidation by oxygen.
