Target Information
1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3, also known as calcitriol, is the active form of vitamin D, normally made in the kidney. It acts as a hormone by binding to and activating the vitamin D receptor in the cell nucleus. Upon activation, it increases the expression of various genes. Its primary role is to regulate calcium homeostasis. Calcitriol helps maintain blood calcium levels within the normal range.
