Target Information
Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), a glycoprotein hormone structurally akin to inhibin and activin within the transforming growth factor beta superfamily, plays a pivotal role in embryonic development. Specifically, it suppresses the formation of the female reproductive tract, also known as the Müllerian ducts (paramesonephric ducts), in male embryos. Consequently, it halts the development of structures such as the fallopian tubes, uterus, and upper vagina. Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), encoded by the AMH gene in horses, serves as a valuable marker for assessing follicle population numbers and potential fertility across various species, including horses. In mares, AMH levels may indicate ovarian senescence after the age of 20, although its variability makes it less reliable during the first two decades of life.
